Have you ever heard of Chelnov: Atomic Runner? It's an obscure run-n-gun platformer by Data East about some guy who gets super powers after being caught in a nuclear explosion. It had the misfortune to be released right after the Cherynobyl incident, so the story (and graphics) were altered drastically for the Mega Drive/Genesis version.
Anyway, I happened to come across a copy of the game at the thriftstore. When I got home, I popped it into my old model 1 Genesis...and Chelnov popped out and hit me in the head with a comically oversized mallet.
